Better Serve the Public

The opening of the Center's complex will provide increased space for our humanities-based exhibitions and programs. Our organization plans to be a major center for the exhibition, collection, study and enjoyment of Russian folk arts.

The project to build the Center's facilities supports our organization's stated mission. The New Russia Cultural Center is striving to expand the public's understanding and appreciation of Russian folk arts, history and culture in the United States.

The Center accomplishes its mission through a variety of educational and cultural programs. Upon construction of its own facilities, the Center will provide educational and cultural services to the general public, including exhibits, dance and musical performances, Russian folk arts workshops, Russian cooking, and language classes.

Learn about our educational programs.

The Center will be located in Albany, New York, the Capital District, New York State.

A freestanding structure will include a 200-seat auditorium, an exhibit gallery, classrooms, and a community room. Those areas will be use for cultural and educational services. Leasing areas include a restaurant, spa, food and gift shops. All facilities are to be enhanced with Russian decor and architectural embellishments to provide Russian cultural ambience.

The Cultural Center, the owner of the building, acts as a lease holder to the individual business residing within the establishment. The Center will keep its own entity with a separate space in the building allocated for its functions: a Performance Hall, an art gallery, a community room, classrooms and an administrative office. Potential tenants are a spa-type facility (Russian Steam Room - Banya), restaurant with Russian cuisine, Russian Food and Gift Shops.

By establishing lease agreements with tenant companies, the Center will position itself as a self-funded base not-profit organization.

To build its own facility the Center requires approximately $4,000,000 in start-up capital, which is attainable through two primary medias. First, the Center intends to receive initial financing funds from the Federal government. The Center requests a grant support from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Currently, the New Russia Cultural Center requests a Federal Government Challenge Grant of $500,000 that will be matched three to one to provide $2 million toward the construction of the Center facilities.

The grant will help to enhance the financial stability of the Center. NEH Challenge Grant Funds will enable the Center to start and complete construction of the Center's complex in Albany, New York. The Center needs financial seed money to secure long-term support from other source.

Second, the Center will take out the long-term bank loan in the amount of $2,000.000. The Center will have steady revenue from the tenants to repay the loan.

We have prepared a plan that lays out a comprehensive fund raising effort of nearly $2 million over the next four years to accomplish the construction of the facilities. The Center is ready to meet the challenge of this NEH grant. The Center has established a capital campaign to raise matching the NEH Challenge Grant funds in the amount of $1,500,000 necessary to construct the Center's facilities.

  • Generating more publicity, so the public knows we need money
